Exercise
Movement is necessary for human existence. Energy is simply defined as the ability to do work. Only in the past few centuries have we had others hunt and gather for us; it used to be essential for our survival.
Exercise is about increasing your body’s ability to function well day in and day out. The unfortunate reality is that every year, numerous studies show us we are only becoming more sedentary, more obese, and more morbid (sick).
Why do most people exercise?
The answer is usually to lose weight, which is the wrong philosophy. What happens if the weight is lost? Where does the motivation go?
A Core Part of 8 Weeks to Wellness®
Exercise is one of the Five Pillars of Health and an essential part of our 8 Weeks to Wellness (8WW) program. The program is designed to change how you move, look, and feel, and not what the scale says. Exercise is a great way to put on muscle mass while losing fat mass, a double-edged sword for longevity. Muscle is the #1 factor in determining how fast you age.
We incorporate three core essentials into our exercise programming:
1) Mobility: As more and more jobs become computer-based desk ones, mobility is vital for all of us. By mobilizing our soft tissues and muscle patterns, we can move through the world.
2) Strength: Did you know that strength is an excellent way to increase the longevity of our lives? The more muscle mass we have, the more we have to fight natural aging.
3) High-intensity Interval Training (HIIT): While there are countless exercises and training methods, HIIT has gained popularity recently due to its efficient and effective nature. By quickly transitioning our heart rate from high to low, we challenge it and make it more adaptable.
The Many Benefits of Exercise
It’s no surprise that regular exercise yields a host of benefits. It can help maintain a healthy weight, strengthen muscles and bones, improve cardiovascular health, and boost immune function. Additionally, exercise can reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. It also plays a crucial role in managing stress, anxiety, and depression by releasing feel-good hormones. Exercise can improve brain function, memory, and quality of sleep. And the list goes on.
